The Last Light

A narrative experience in spatial computing, done by the first party development team Magic Leap Studios for the Magic Leap One. Here is a short teaser for the project that may never be shown but we worked very hard to have it released. It was about to premiere at SXSW in 2020 when COVID struck. It was also the crowning achievement for the studio that pushed the boundaries for creativity, art and fun for mixed reality while both being in the position of asking and answering questions on an unexplored platform.

I was honored to be responsible for much of the lighting, the texturing, and all water on the project. The small hint of a house interior and it's timelapse lighting was actually 26 different baked maps blended on a timeline and probably the biggest technical challenge on my part. I spent a lot of time in early look development experiments, mainly working on the waterfall scene to test cookies, baking, bloom, and the water shaders while story was being written and scenes were being built. A lot of time spent at the beginning trying to ask as many questions as possible so we wouldn't be surprised later because there was so much that we didn't know. Supported by an incredible art and engineering team this was unforgettable and worthwhile challenge to prove out storytelling in a brand new medium.
